Jaipur is the Capital of India's desert state Rajasthan and is known as the "Pink City" due to the colour of the stone used to build the old walled part of the city. Jaipur was founded in 1727 by Maharaja Sawai Singh II and is a Royal City. Highlights of this tour include a visit to the beautiful City Palace and the magnificent fort of Amber situated in the hills just outside the city.
As well as its many monuments Jaipur is famous for its shopping and the city offers the perfect place to buy antiques, jewellery, handicrafts, gems, bracelets, pottery, carpets, textiles and leather work.
This morning a driver will meet you in your hotel lobby and you will drive to Jaipur. The car will be fully air conditioned and the journey should take a maximum of 4 to 5 hours depending on traffic
On arrival in Jaipur your guide will meet you and you will continue to the first stop of the day the spectacular "Hawa Mahal" or wind palace with its many intricately designed windows,this is a major landmark of Jaipur. From here we take a short walk to Jantar Mantar, one of the best observatories in India containing a collection of instruments made from marble and brass. Next we visit the City Palace museum which is still the residence of the current Maharaja and Royal family of Jaipur. The museum houses a wide selection of artifacts and uniforms allowing an insight into life long ago. The palace is also home to the beautiful mosaic peacock gate in the entertainment hall.
Following your visit to the City Palace we will break for a buffet lunch at a 5 star hotel where you will have time to relax and recharge.
After lunch we carry on to Amber Fort just outside Jaipur. The fort was built in the 16th century from red sandstone and marble. Situated on the top of a hill the fort commands stunning views of the surrounding countryside and also over the lake below.
Jaipur is a shopper's paradise and throughout the day there will be the option to visit a selection of arts and crafts galleries where you will have the opportunity to purchase some souvenirs.
After finishing your sightseeing and shopping you will say goodbye to your guide and the driver will take you back to Delhi and drop you off at your hotel.
