It's useless to describe the beauty of Taj Mahal in words, because thousands of poets and writers have already tried to do so but nobody could justify the real elegance of this timeless monument. The crystal-white monument has acquired dozens of notable titles such as the Symbol of Love and Seventh Wonder of the World, but if you want to witness the real charm and beauty of it, you need to be there.
Located beautifully on the banks of River Yamuna, Taj Mahal is a monument built by Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan in memory of his wife Mumtaj Mahal who died while giving birth to their fourteenth child. Since it was built for love and honour, the monument still remains a pilgrimage destination for lovers and couples.
There is a lot to explore in Taj apart from its majestic beauty. The backyards of the monument provide you with a soothing atmosphere where you may feel the love of Shah Jahan and Mumtaj in the cool breezes. Want more, you have the opportunity to spend some time in the gardens encircling the monument as a short picnic. The main premise contains a few gardens beautifully decorated with lakes and flowers. Spend some time in the gardens with your loved once and explore the majestic beauty of Taj from here.
Agra is quite famous for its delicious food and this is the time we'll taste the same. Enter a five-star hotel to enjoy a buffet lunch. Spend some time in rest before resuming your journey.
A replica of the Taj Mahal, the Baby Taj is the tomb of Itmad-ud-Daula. The monument is quite popular for its historical value as well as beautiful architecture.
Itmad-Ud-Daula, or the Pillar of the State is a title given to the most important person in the empire. This title was given to Mirza Ghiyas Beg, the father-in-law of the Mughal Emperor Jahangir. After his death, the emperor decided to create a memorial to honour the man and build this monument that we call Tomb of Itmad-ud-Daula.
Located at a distance of 40km from Agra is Fatehpur Sikri, an ancient town established by Mughal Emperor Akbar. Since only the ruins of the actual town are present now, Fatehpur Sikri is also known as the Ghost Town. It has great historical and architectural value and is a must visit destination for the travellers.
Fatehpur Sikri was established as the capital of Mughal Empire and everything was built here that is required to run an empire. Being a town flourished with all amenities, Fatehpur Sikri soon became the powerhouse of the Mughal Empire. However, a severe draught hit the town forcing the rulers and residents to spare it. Thus, the empire was moved to Agra. Due to this incident, the town was given a name of Ghost Town. Many people still believe that you can find the souls, of those who died in the draught, wandering in the streets of the town.
While in Agra, don't forget to spend some time in its street to shop for some great souvenirs. Agra is famous for its handicrafts and sweets. Collect a few replicas of Taj or other handicrafts to carry back home.
Later, return to Agra Railway Station to catch your train back home. Dinner will be served in the train. Upon reaching New Delhi, our representative will drop you back at your hotel. The Same Day Agra Tour by Train ends here.
