The Taj Mahal, one of the Seven Wonders of the World, is a living monument silently whispering the love of the legendary Mughal emperor Shah Jahan for his wife Mumtaz Mahal. It is one of the most prominent symbols of love situated on the banks of the Yamuna River in the historical city of Agra. The Taj Mahal is made of white marble with beautiful inlay work of precious and semi-precious stones and verses of the Quran are written in inlay work over its gates. Travelers from all parts of the world visit India especially to catch a glimpse of the magnificent Taj Mahal. Without a doubt the stunning architecture and the peaceful environment make the Taj Mahal a unique and memorable place to visit.
Although most famous for the Taj Mahal Agra has many other interesting sights to offer. Our day tours include a visit to Agra Fort another stunning example of Mughal architecture built in 1565 by the Emperor Akbar. On this tour there is also the option to visit either the desert fort of Fatehpur Sikri or Itmad-ud-daula, better known as the Baby Taj.
This morning a driver will meet you in your hotel lobby and take you to New Delhi rail way station where they will help you to board the train to Agra. (Your E-ticket for the train will be sent via e-mail once your booking is confirmed). Passengers are required to carry Valid ID such as a Passport or Driving license when travelling on the train.
The Train will depart at 06:00 AM from Delhi to Agra. The train is a Shatabdi Express Fully air-conditioned Train and your ticket includes Breakfast which will be served shortly after the train departs.
Your Guide will meet you off the train in Agra and take you to your car where you will meet your driver for the day. All cars are fully air conditioned and your guide will be with you until you board the train back to Delhi.
The first stop of the day is Agra's most famous monument the magnificent Taj Mahal. The Taj Mahal was built in the 17th century by the Emperor Shah Jahan in memory of his beloved wife Mumtasz Mahal. Built from white marble with beautiful inlay work it is easy to see why the Taj Mahal is one of the Seven Wonders of the World and an important world heritage site.
(Please note: the Taj Mahal is closed to visitors on Fridays)
After enjoying your visit to the Taj Mahal, we carry on to Agra Fort, built in 1565 A.D this is another example of the majestic and very distinctive Mughal era architecture.
Following your visit to Agra Fort we will break for a buffet lunch at a 5 star hotel where you will have time to relax and recharge.
After lunch you have the option to visit either the desert fort of Fatehpur Sikri or Itmad-ud-daula the Baby Taj. Fatehpur Sikri is situated 40 Kms from Agra and around a One Hour Drive. Also known as the City of Ghosts Fatehpur Sikri was Built by Emperor Akbar in the 16th Century and is made up of marvelous red stone work. Itmad-ud-daula (Baby Taj) was the inspiration for the Taj Mahal and is covered in the same beautiful inlay work. After visiting the Baby Taj we continue on to MehtabBagh (Moon light garden) where we get stunning views of the Taj Mahal from across the Yamuna river.
Throughout the day there will be the option to visit a selection of arts and crafts galleries where you will have the opportunity to purchase some souvenirs. In one gallery we can see the descendants of the people who built the Taj Mahal creating intricate marble inlay designs.
After finishing your sightseeing and shopping your guide will return with you to the train station and help you to board the train. The train will depart at 21.15 PM and dinner on the train is included in your fare.
On arrival in Delhi a driver will pick you up from the railway station and drive you back to your hotel.
